In addition to Alexander the Great's influence, Gandhara had significant connections to Greek culture through the Indo-Greek kingdoms that emerged after Alexander's conquests. The Indo-Greek rulers, who were of Greek descent, established their rule in Gandhara and other regions of the Indian subcontinent from the 2nd century BCE to the 1st century CE. During this period, Greek cultural elements, including art, architecture, language, and philosophy, strongly influenced the Gandharan region. The fusion of Greek and local Indian artistic traditions gave rise to the unique Gandharan art style, characterized by Hellenistic influences in the depiction of Buddhist figures and narratives.

The Gandharan art showcased a blending of Greek and Indian artistic techniques, incorporating realistic human forms, draped clothing, and architectural elements like Corinthian columns. This artistic fusion played a vital role in the development of Buddhist art in the region and influenced the spread of Buddhism into Central Asia and beyond. Moreover, the Indo-Greek rulers introduced Greek customs, language, and administrative systems in Gandhara. They promoted the use of Greek as the language of administration and trade, and Greek coinage was widely circulated in the region.

The interactions between Gandhara and Greek culture during the Indo-Greek period left a lasting impact on the region's art, architecture, language, and cultural practices, contributing to the unique historical and artistic heritage of Gandhara.
